Phillip Dexter Keener, 54 of 10th Street Drive, NW Hickory died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born March 13, 1956 in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of Talmedge Aaron Keener & Cora Irene Franklin Keener both of Hickory. Phillip was very proud of his son Derek, who is in the Air Force. Phillip has worked many years as the Manager of the family business, Hickory Exxon. He was a life time member of the N.R.A., very active with the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky and a member of the Catawba Valley Wildlife Club. Together for 11 years and married for three years, his wife Ann Keller Keener of the home; a son, Derek Keener serving in the U.S. Air Force and wife Nicole of Seaside, California; four brothers, Sidney Keener and wife, Pam of Aiken, SC, Thomas Keener & wife Susie of Winston Salem, NC, Brian Keener & wife Debbie of Hickory and Anthony Keener & wife Sandy of Hickory; and numerous nieces and nephews and many great nieces & nephews survive him. A Celebration of Phillip’s Life will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 11, 2011 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel on Startown Road. The family will receive friends immediately follow the service. Pastor David Grinnell of Penelope Baptist Church will officiate.
