Phyllis Harris

Phyllis Harris, 88, of Newton went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with Alzheimer's on Friday, December 27, 2024 at her residence. Born December 15th, 1936 she was the only daughter of the late Roy Lee Harris Sr. and Beulah Barker Harris. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking Sunday meals for them. She enjoyed walking and reading. After retirement, she enjoyed baking pies and cakes for the shut-ins. She was active in the community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a long time member of the Rose Chapel Methodist Church in Statesville since 1961.

Her son, Kevin Harris and wife, Martha Harris of Newton; three grandchildren, Briam Romito, Dillon Harris and Jenna Romito; four step-grandchildren, Amanda Cox, David Hasson, Tim Hasson and Felicia Mitchem; three sister-in-laws, Audrey Harris, Sally Harris and Carolyn Harris and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren survive her.

In addition to her parents, her brothers, Roy, Kenneth and R.C Harris; her son, Ricky Harris and her former husband, William Harris preceded her in death.

The funeral will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Rose Chapel Methodist Church in Statesville with Rev. Jeff Goudelock officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 at the church, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to her church, Rose Chapel Methodist Church in Statesville or the Hospice House of Catawba County.
