Ray Cletus Cansler, 77 of Newton died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born October 29, 1934 he was the son of the late Cletus Calvin Cansler & Lizzie Mae Heavner Cansler. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea. He retired from Overnight Transportation after 40 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, the outdoors and fellowshipping with his friends. His wife of 43 years, Geraldine Elder Cansler of the home; three sons, Scott Campbell of Claremont, Chris Campbell and wife Jackie of Sherrills Ford and Danny Ray Cansler and wife Brenda of Lincolnton; two sisters, Betty D?Amico and husband Julian of Mooresville, NC and Daisy Cansler Eller of Newton; six grand-children, Tate Campbell, Jessica Campbell, Kelly Campbell, Tyler Campbell, Amber Cansler and little buddy, Brayden Cansler; four great grand-children, Elizabeth, Neeley, Riley and Logan; and a number of nieces & nephews, as well as a multitude of friends and loved ones survive him. Two brothers, Johnny J. Cansler and Ernest Cansler; and a sister, Essie Cansler Smith preceded him in death. The funeral will be 2:00 pm Monday, November 28, 2011 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Arthur Yount and Pastor Fred Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park with military rites provided by American Legion Post #16.
