Ray Eugene Eller, 78 of Eller Dr. Newton, died Friday October 26, 2007 at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born July 11, 1929 in Catawba County, the son of the late John Hamilton and Carrie Marie Icard Eller. He was a driver with Overnight transportation for 40 years, a member of Hickory American Legion Post 48 and the Hickory Moose Lodge 1312 where he served as Junior Past Governor. He was a US Army veteran. His first wife, Geneva Smith Eller, a son, Roy Lee Eller, a daughter, Alice Marie Parlier, two sisters, Dorothy Ingle and Brenda Redman and a brother Johnny Wayne Eller preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Daisy Ruth Cansler of the home; two daughters, Kathy Eller of Newton and Becky Kiser of Hickory; a son, Wayne Eller of Hildebran; two step daughters, Teresa Hayes of Claremont and Kathy Bader of Newton; three sisters, Peggy Little and Hazel Setzer of Claremont and Nancy Eller of Hickory; a brother, Jerry Eller of Davidson; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. The funeral will be 2:0 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2007 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Ledford officiating. Burial will follow at Startown-Jenkins Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
