Richard Ervin Sigmon 65 of Catawba County passed away peacefully Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Trinity Ridge after a battle with early onset dementia. Richard Ervin Sigmon was born May 21st, 1955 to the late Dewel Ervin Sigmon and Shirley Moose Sigmon.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Melinda Sigmon Linder.

Rick was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking. In his youth he taught hang gliding. It was in the mountains, the outdoors, where he found his inner peace. he loved people and loved telling stories of his camping and his outdoor adventures. He loved his family most of all and when he lived out of town he would often request his sister to call everyone together for a cookout so he could see them all when he came in. He was a loving big brother even playing the role of Easter Bunny to his baby sister leaving her baskets from the Easter Bunny with treats well into her high school days. He could be a jokester too, wearing a crash helmet when he was teaching that same baby sister to drive and making his nephew wash the dishes in the creek while camping and laughing as the paper plates fell apart. He cherished his nephew and his niece as if they were his own and the pride for them showed on his face when they were mentioned. He will be missed by those he left behind.

He leaves to cherish his memory that same baby sister Melanie Sigmon Cook and husband Kelly Cook. Nephew Ethan Sigmon, niece Sydney Johnson Knowles and husband Max Knowles. Aunt Judy Stafford and cousin Tony Stafford.
