Roberto Hernandez Martínez (76) of Charlotte, N.C. entered into eternal rest on September 21, 2023; May his perpetual light shine upon him. Roberto was born on August 26, 1947 to Guadalupe H. Martinez and Narciso S. "Marty" Martinez in Brownsville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lisa Anne Martínez, and two sisters: Yolanda Martinez Roescher and Irma Martinez Allen.
Roberto was a devoted father, brother and husband. His love of family was endless. He welcomed any excuse for a barbecue party, being a master at it, for family fun. He left Texas for his daughter in North Carolina but Texas never left him. He was a charmer with the ladies and loved to sing country Karaoke with family, fish, drink and celebrate life... his way. We will always honor him with his favorite song, “My Way" and he’ll always be remembered singing it.
Roberto is survived by his only child, Bobbi Denise Pettit, who was his devoted and loving caregiver and her husband Steven J. Pettit, Jr.; by his three loving sisters Mary C. Martinez Rubio (Conrad), Rosalinda G. Nichols (Larry), and Perla M. Pander; by his fiercely-protective fur-baby Smokey Martinez, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roberto was a 1966 graduate of Mary Carroll High School. After graduation, Roberto served in the U.S. Army, fighting for his country in the Vietnam War as a helicopter gunner and mechanic. After the war, he directed his mechanical expertise towards auto mechanics, becoming an automatic transmission specialist at several Corpus Christi locations; then later, owner and manager of three transmission shops in the Houston area.
Roberto was raised in the Catholic faith, carrying him through the Vietnam War and through his trials and tribulations in fighting a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services with Military Honors were private.
