Roger Cress

Roger Lee Cress, 65 of Baxter Road, Cherryville, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Robin Johnson Hospice House in Gastonia. Born December 1, 1945 in Chilhowie, Virginia, he was the son of the late John Spinkle Cress and Betty Blevins Cress. In addition to his wife, Donna Gail Broyles Cress of the home; five daughters, Andrea Valentine & husband Bruce of Lincolnton, Samantha Myers & husband Derry of Rock Hill, Brandy Cress and husband Les Bolin of Lincolnton, Mandy Wallace of Claremont and Jenny Brittain and husband Ben of Lenoir; a son, Steven Skeens of Cherryville; three sisters, Lola Pennington of Va., Mae Cress of Tn., and Ruth Yule of Va.; a brother, Doug Cress of Va., and 22 grand-children, Lance, Cody, Gabe, Bethany, Sophie, Robert, Taylor, Kirsten, Aiden, Winnie, Chase, Savannah, Justin, Chandler, Page, Dawson, L.J., Brianna, Hannah, Emily, Cheyenne and Addison survive him. A grand-daughter, Makayla; a grand-son, Eli and numerous siblings preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday October 13, 2011 at Chilhowie Christian Church in Chilhowie, Va. Burial will follow at Mountain View Methodist Church Cemetery in Virginia. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday October 12, 2011 at Chilhowie Christian Church. A celebration of life ceremony will be 6-8:00 p.m., Saturday October 15, 2011 at Startown First Baptist Church in Newton, NC. Pastor Dean Hart will officiate.
