Ronald Smearman

Smearman, Ronald W. "SQUISH", 67 passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 13, 2016 in his hometown of Hudson, NC. Born on October 18, 1948, to the late Harry C. and Hilda Smearman. Born and raised in Meyersdale, PA, where while not only attending school and such, he worked alongside his parents and sister tending to livestock and farm crop, which would either be used by family or bartered with neighbors and townspeople. Shortly after graduating from Meyersdale High in 1966, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, where he remained from 1966 to 1970, spending his active duty aboard the USS Sassafras. After his honorable discharged from USCG, he would remain not only in Cape May County but he would continue to endure a life on the water, working as a commercial fisherman. Later he would go on to lease a service station in Wildwood, which he would lead into working for Burke Motors as a salesman at both locations until 1990. He always dabbled with buying and selling used cars for many years after; also he had a deep passion for antique cars. He worked a short time at Acme Markets, CMCH, until he relocated back to hi hometown of Meyersdale, PA. He then moved to Hudson, N. C., where he was employed as a prison guard until his illness. Ronald love to sit, talk and drink coffee, play cards and such with friends and family for hours. Over the years not only during his childhood but into his own children's lives, he shared his love of horses. He would go on to have many dogs as companions, a few left a mark on his heart, Butch, Max and Nikki. Ronald also volunteered his services to the Rio Grande Rescue Squad for many years between 1970 and the 1980s obtaining the status of Life Member. He is survived by his wife Tracey (Lashley), her son and grandson, his two children Steven, Sr (Mandy), Grace "Sissy" Lashley (Tim), his grandsons Steven, Jr., Luke, T.J., his only sibling, Pat Owens (Ron), and many nieces and nephews.
