Ruby Holman

July 26, 1933 — October 27, 2010

Ruby Linnes Goforth Holman, 77 of Old Conover Startown Road died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at her residence. Born July 26, 1933, she was the daughter of the late, Henry Grady Goforth & Fannie Bell Lanier Goforth. Poetry, song and stories have been a hobby for Ruby all her life and now that she is gone, they are bringing our family much comfort in reading them. She loved God, her family and Blue Grass Music. She loved her Sunday School class, the Primetimers at Gateway Baptist Church. Three daughters, Reba Brooks & husband Randy of Newton, Gaye Ikerd of Maiden, Donna Tesner & husband Mark of Shelby; two sons, Buddy Holman & wife Carolyn of Hickory, Frelan Holman of Morganton; 20 grand-children; 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews and a soon to be born, grand-daughter, Avery Grace survive her. Her husband of 21 years, the late Walter Burl Holman; four brothers, Harvey Goforth, Henry Goforth, Robert Goforth, James Goforth; two sisters, Martha McCall, Vera Dula; a son, Dusty Holman; a daughter, Betsy Holman and son in laws, Jack Ikerd & Larry Dellinger preceded her in death. A Celebration of Ruby’s life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Gateway Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerome Walker & Mr. Matt Holman will officiate. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10-11:00 a.m. at the church, prior to the service. At other times the family will be gathering at the home of her daughter, Reba Brooks, 414 N. Gaither Ave. Newton. Pallbearers include, Scott Brooks, Kelly Brooks, Corey Brooks, Matt Holman, Dusty Holman, Jason Holman, Anthony Hoyle & Chris Willis. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231. Condolence messages may be sent to www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net. The Holman family has entrusted arrangements to Jenkins Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Newton.
