Ruby Leonard

Ruby Kate Leonard, 86 of Hickory died Sunday, September 27th, 2015 at Trinity Village. Born April 7th, 1929 she was the daughter of Bill Bumgarner and Beulah Bumgarner. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and all children. She enjoyed reading, yard sales, dolls, Christmas and collecting nativity scenes. She enjoyed life. She kept children in her home for many years and later worked at Lenoir-Rhyne College for over 15 years.

She is survived by three daughters, Vera Leonard of Hickory, Ann Leonard Chapman and husband Thomas of Hickory and Kay Leonard Shaver and husband Jeff of Winter Garden, FL; a son, Ernest Daniel Leonard, Jr. and wife Glenda of Granite Falls; two sisters, Rachel Lou Proctor of Hickory, Beulah Lois Chapman of Newton; two brothers, John Asbury Bumgarner of Newton, William Jack Bumgarner of Hickory; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

In addition to her parents, her husband of 62 years, Ernest Daniel Leonard, Sr., two sisters, Betty Ruth Roberts and Radah Mae Cook preceded her in death.

The funeral will be 12:00 pm Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor John David Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11-12:00 pm Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 at the church.

Memorials may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church 1911 Zion Church Road.
