Ruth Revonda Deitz Arrowood, 91 of Newton died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Conover Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Conover. Born July 26, 1922 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Claude Deitz and Grace Bolick Deitz. Ruth was a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church since she was 18 years old. She was a former Sunday School teacher and a lifetime Women's Guild member. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was known as an incredibly good cook and was well known for her red velvet and coconut cakes and pumpkin pies. During her working career she worked for Ridgeview Mills. In addition to her husband, John A. Arrowood; a sister, Peggy Greene preceded her in death. Two sons, John "Richard" Arrowood and wife Brenda of Newton and Gerald Thomas Arrowood of Newton; two sisters, Catherine Arrowood and Hazel Robinson, both of Newton; a brother, Glenn Deitz of Hickory; grand-children, Jennifer Arrowood Townsend and husband Keith of Hickory and Jonathan Arrowood and wife Rene of Katy, TX; and great, grand-children, McKenzie Townsend, Maddie Grace Townsend, Madelene Elaine Arrowood, Ainsley Joyce Arrowood, John Anaiah Arrowood and Josiah Patton Arrowood survive her. A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Stephen R. Disher officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Memorial Park in Newton. The family will receive 2-3:00 p.m., one hour prior, in the chapel of Jenkins Funeral Home.
