Samuel Harden Brookbank 92 of Newton died Thursday January 2nd, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born January 25th, 1921 he was the son of the late Samuel Kell Brookbank and Myrtle Viola Brookbank. He worked for Burlington Industries, Bentley International Machine Company, International Knitting Machinery, Carolina Associates, Paul Lavitt Mills and he taught at CVCC. He was an ordained Baptist Minister and was a member of Friendly Baptist Church in High Point for 25 years. He and his wife have made Newton their home since 1975. Three daughters, Beverly Nielson of Morganton, Brenda Shuskey and husband James of High Point and Sandra Hicks and husband Michael of Orlando, FL; two sons, Charles Larry Brookbank and wife Erma of Critz, VA, and Samuel Harden Brookbank, Jr. and wife Beverly of Tabor City; a sister, Louise Brown of Thomasville; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren survive him. His wife of 72 years, Julia Barrier Brookbank and a daughter, Nancy Hardister preceded him in death. The funeral will be 1:00 pm Monday January 6th, 2014 at Fairgrove Baptist Church with Pastor Neil George officiating. Entombment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12-1PM one hour prior to the service Monday January 6th, 2014 at the church.
