Selena Poovey Speagle, 64, of Vale, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022, in her home. Born on Saturday, April 5th, 1958, she was the daughter of Tommy Eugene Poovey and Evelyn Stallings Poovey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Frankie Irene Stallings, of Vale; her uncle, Gary Stallings, of Vale; and uncle Bill Leonhardt, of Vale.
Selena loved traveling to the beach and the mountains, hosting cookouts, swimming in the family pool, and spending time with her husband, daughter, extended family, and friends. She will be fondly remembered for her smile, laughter, and enjoyable nature.
Selena graduated from Fred T. Foard High School, Class of 1976. She had many careers over her lifetime but was most known for helping manage the former family business, Banoak Food Center. Selena also worked for Catawba and Lincoln County Schools in the cafeteria, substitute teaching, and as a bus driver.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jimmy Speagle, of Vale; daughter, Kendal Holleman and son-in-law, Chase, of Havelock; brother, Tommy Fitz Poovey and wife, Lynn, of Vale; aunt, Lillian Richardson of Vale; aunt, Diane Kerley and husband, Barry, of Vale; cousin, Mary Kerley, of Charlotte; aunt, Frances Myers, of Ocean Isle Beach; cousin, Sonya Poston and husband, Jimmy, of Ocean Isle Beach; cousin, Ray Myers and wife, Cyndi, of Bolivia; aunt, Wanda Leonhardt, of Vale; cousins, Brian and Derrick Leonhardt, of Vale; uncle, Dwight Stallings, and wife, Barbara, of Vale; and cousins, Rodney Stallings and wife, Lesley, of Vale. As well as her beloved cat, Kami.
The family will receive visitation from 1 pm - 1:45 pm on Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at Corinth Baptist Church in Vale.
The memorial service will be 2 pm on Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at Corinth Baptist Church in Vale with Pastor William Kanupp officiating. Jenkins Funeral Home staff is not involved in the memorial service at the church.
