Sonja Yoder

February 5, 1938 — December 25, 2023

Sonja Dean Yoder, 85, of Hickory passed away Monday, December 25th, 2023 at Abernethy Laurels. Born, February 5th, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Rev. A.M. (Mark) Yoder and Jessie Hildebran Yoder Cline. She retired after working many years in the textile industry. She enjoyed playing piano, sewing, and crocheting gifts for the community as well as her friends and family.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters, Nora Houser, DeVann Massey, Phyllis Monteen Kubacki, and Veva Troutman; and a brother, Wallace (Wally) Yoder.

She is survived by her children, Jeff Joyce (Ruth) of Paducah, KY, Dawn Joyce of Paducah, KY, Eric Joyce (Aditi) of Harvest, AL; her grandchildren, Christopher Joyce, Melissa Joyce, Erica Joyce, Erin Rossner, Alyssa Ewing, Laurel Jenkins, Avani Akins, and Rani Joyce; and four great-grandchildren.

Sonja's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Abernethy Laurels for their compassionate care over the past few years.

The family would like to also thank the pastoral staff and members of the Church of God (Universal), Hagerstown, MD for their ministry to her.

A Graveside Service will be on January 5, 2023 at 3:00 at Reepsgrove Methodist Church Cemetery located at 7401 Reeps Grove Church Rd, Vale, NC 28168.
