Stephen Andrew Walker 71 of Conover passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County. Born, May 10th, 1949 he was the son of the late Thomas William and Mary Monroe Walker
Steve graduated from St. Stephens High School in 1967. After graduation, he worked for his family business, Walker Hosiery Mill. During that time, he began volunteering t St. Stephens Fire Department . This led to his Full Time career as Firefighter. He started working for Hickory Fire Department in 1979. In 1981, he was promoted to Fire Inspector and worked in that position until 1988. Until he retired in 2000, he served the city as an Apparatus Operator. He loved hunting, guns, motorcycle riding, playing golf, watching Westerns and was fan of NASCAR and NFL football. He had a great sense of humor and seldom meet a stranger.
He is survived by a daughter, Tammi Walker Murray (Jeff) of Claremont; a son, Stephen David Walker(Tina) of Conover; a sister, Glenda Kelly; a brother, Tommy Walker; Grandchildren Whitney Williams, of Newton; Chelsie Hayes of Hickory; Ashlynn Smith of Charleston, SC, Chase Murray, Christyan Murray, Chandler Murray, and Charles Murray of Claremont and 3 Great Grandchildren.
In addition to his parents; a sister, Nancy Walker Smith; brothers Raymond Walker, James Walker, Charles Walker, Marvin Walker, Ray Walker and Granddaughter, Charlie Ray Murray preceded him in death.
A graveside service will be 2:00 pm Sunday, December 13th, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Causby officiating.
