Sue Simpson

Sue Eller Simpson, 71 passed away July 25th at home under the care of Catawba Regional Hospice. She was born February 23rd, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Travis Littleton Eller, Jr. and Leona Stull Eller, but grew up in Hickory. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Lynette Buchanan, and a grandson, Dustin Darche. She is survived by her husband, D. Vann Simpson, and sister, Beverly Ledford, and son, Russell Farley all of Hickory, granddaughter, Alexis Marie Buchanan, Florida and grandson, Seth Eugene Farley, Wisconsin. Aunts, Doris Jordan, Elva Rae Honeycutt, Judy Hoffner, Uncle John Eller, and his wife Frances all of Rockwell. Nephews, Rick and wife Tonya Ledford and children Riley and Travis of Mooresville, Shane Ledford, Daniel Ledford and wife Gayla and sons Jacob Fox, Josh and wife Lorie Fox and son Cameron, Aaron Ledford and Jenny Oxentine and children Lace and Mason Sharpe all of Taylorsville. Also surviving, a step-daughter, Julie Simpson Salvi, and her husband Emilio Salvi, and grandchildren, Rocco, Bella, and Cara Salvi, Chicago. Sue retired from Duke Energy in Charlotte 2006. She was employed there for more than 28 years, and held many positions. She was a licensed Certified Business Continuity Professional. She was formerly chairman of the Contingency Planning Association of the Carolinas. She also served on the advisory board of the Disaster Recovery Journal. Sue attended Lenoir Rhyne University for two years, and then transferred to University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she received a BA in Business Administration. Sue and her husband Vann are very active members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hickory both serving as Stephen Ministers, and members of the Resurrection Sunday School Class. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday July 30, 2016 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 547 6th St. NW, Hickory, NC with the Pastor Robert Allen officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. A graveside service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rockwell at a later date.
