Timothy Jerome Paxton Sr. , 66, of Newton passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021. Tim was born February 25th, 1955, the son of the late Ben and Alma Bryson Paxton of Charlotte. He later lived with his family in Greensboro, NC and Roanoke, VA. He graduated from Allegheny High School in 1973. He joined the United States Marine Corps right after graduation where he served at Camp Lejeune, Camp Pendleton, Camp Butler, and 29 Palms. Tim also did cold weather training in upstate New York. He served in Okinawa, Japan until 1986. He served as Staff Sergeant, Military Police, was a Marine Recruiter in South Georgia and worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections. He recently retired after many long years of work at Commscope Claremont after heart issues. Tim had a gift of speaking to people as he never met a stranger. With his gift of friendliness and a love for the Corps he was able to recruit many young men to the Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife Pamela Shell Paxton, his mother-in-law Mae Shell Detter, his favorite cat Hank, and his Labrador Dexter Paladin.
In addition he is survived by three sisters, Jane, Dot, and Betty of Greensboro, NC; a step-brother, Robert Paxton of Salem, VA; cousins in York, SC; three daughters, Sheree of Florida, Christina and Amanda of Georgia; and his grandchildren of Georgia.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant son Timothy Jerome Paxton Jr; and a brother, James Paxton.
A graveside service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, October 26th, 2021 at Southside Park Cemetery. Burial will follow with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am-10:45 am Tuesday, October 26th, 2021 at Southside Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Boys Home an Episcopal School in Covington VA.
