Velma Ernestine â??Mickeyâ? Kanupp, 70 of Mtn. Terrace Drive Hickory died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born October 31, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Ernest Underwood Sr. & Velma Ora Rice Underwood. Mickey was a caring and outgoing person. She served her community as a Licensed Practical Nurse and a Notary Public for over thirty years. She was an active member of the Salvation Army of Hickory where she was editor of the Salvation Army Newsletter and The Golden Circle Club. One of her favorite pastimes was crocheting and she blessed her family & friends with many of her beautifully hand crafted gifts. Two daughters; Anna Gail Kanupp Miller & husband Jeff of Lenoir, Donna Kanupp Storie & husband Tracy of Lenoir; two sons, Kenneth Gordon Nestor, Steven Douglas Nestor and wife Emily of Vale; a sister, Sylvia Moretz and husband Horace of Bethlehem; a brother, Calvin Underwood, Jr. & wife Linda of Asheville; four grand-children, Sarah Storie, Jay Storie, Joseph Miller and Jeff Miller; three aunts, Elsie Underwood of Hickory and Gladys Starnes of Bethlehem, Aunt Annie and William â??Billâ? Underwood of Maiden and many cousins survive her. Her grandchild; David Miller, preceded her in death. The Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at the Hickory Salvation Army Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 pm at the church- 750 3rd Ave. Place SE, Hickory, NC 28602.. Major Kent Davis and Captainâ??s Michael & Christine Harris will officiate. Pallbearers include, Brian Neal Underwood, Sr., Brian Neal Underwood, Jr, Major William Underwood, Colonel James George, Jay Storie & Blake Jennings. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army-PO Box 1167 Hickory, NC 28603. Condolence messages may be sent to www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net. The Kanupp family has entrusted arrangements to Jenkins Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Newton.
