W. A. “Bill” Hinson, 81, of Claremont Rd., Newton died Friday, August 26, 2005 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born September 30, 1923 in Haywood County, he was the son of the late Plezz Thornt Hinson and Katie Lou Vess Hinson. He was a veteran of WW 11 serving in the US Air Force. He was a Lt. Col. in the NC Civil Air Patrol, was a pilot and flight instructor and a member of the AOPO. He was member of Maiden Memorial UCC and the Hickory American Legion Post 48. He was a truck driver with Ticaro Textiles. Surviving include his wife of 63 years, Irene Thornton Hinson of the home, three daughters and three sons in law, Ilene Hinson Drum and Everette Drum of Newton, Cathy Lou Hinson Franklin-Griffin and Harry Griffin of Lexington, and Bobbie Irene Hinson McNeil and Clayton McNeil of Six Mile, SC and an “adopted” daughter, Barbara Hennigar of Claremont, two sisters, Pauline Hinson Cook of Newton and Bessie Lucille Anthony of Newton, two brothers, James Merlin Hinson of Florida and Jimmy E. Hinson of Lincolnton, five grandchildren, Lisa Adams of Newton, Michael Howard of Catawba, Eric Franklin of Mebane, Jennifer McNeil Mauldin of Ninety Six, SC and Jobie McNeil Henderson of Florence, SC and 15 great grandchildren. A brother, Junior Thornt Hinson, preceded him in death. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at Maiden Memorial United Church of Christ. The Rev. Tim Wepner will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Matthews United Church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harry Griffin, Clayton McNeil, Everette Drum, Michael Howard, Eric Franklin, and Matthew Henderson. The family will receive friends at Maiden Memorial UCC from 7- 8:30 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2005. The family requests that memorials be made to Maiden Memorial UCC, PO Box 4, Maiden, NC 28650.
