Wendell Luce

December 13, 1943 — November 18, 2020

After a hard-fought battle with a terminal illness, Wendell Harry Luce of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on November 18th, 2020 while at Caldwell Memorial Hospital where he was kept comfortable. Wendell fought a hard battle with terminal cancer over the course of 3 months. He leaves behind his four daughters, Wendi Jane Luce Patterson, Deanna Lynn Luce Talley, Melissa Sue Luce, and  Bonnie Marie Luce Recchia. Wendell was born on December 13th, 1943 in Compton, Quebec, Canada son of Frederick Burton Luce and Mother Ella Beatrice Young Luce. He grew up in a large family with five sisters and four brothers who loved him dearly. Wendell was thought highly of by anybody who crossed paths with him. He was a person who would be there for you no matter what and would do anything for his family. He had a heart of gold and a sense of humor that could put a smile on anybody’s face. Wendell received his first job working for Moes River Sawmill. He had also worked at Nu- Method Shirt Service, Electric Terminal and then retired at Annie’s Dry Cleaning. Wendell was a hard worker with an  unmatched work ethic. He always went above and beyond for his family to make sure he could provide for them. When diagnosed with lung, liver and brain cancer in September 2020, Wendell still remained independent for himself for as long as he could and had stayed optimistic that he would beat this cancer. Wendell fought as hard as he could and made sure to try and stay strong for his family, even throughout his final weeks. Wendell will be missed terribly by all of his family. Wendell is survived by his four daughters, Wendi Jane Luce Patterson, Deanna Lynn Luce Talley, Melissa Sue Luce, and Bonnie Marie Luce Recchia; his 13 grandchildren Sean Scott Luce (Stephanie Luce), Stephanie Louise Luce, Andreas Dimitri Luce, Shamar Donnell Talley, Jaleel Donnell Talley, Michael Anthony Ducharme, Brian Genarro Luce, Samantha Alexis Ducharme, Rashad Donnell Talley, Corey Paul Luce, Hannah Nicole Hodge, Katelyn Renae Hodge, and Colby Thomas Recchia; his great-grandchildren Sean Scott Lopes, Caylee Bristol Luce, Noah Matthew Owens, Melody Renae Hennessy, and Ki’Mora Yazmin Luce. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Rita Luce Stone (Ernest Stone) and his brother Albert Nelson Luce (Lois Luce). He is also survived by his numerous nieces and  nephews, friends, and the rest of his family. Wendell is preceded in death by his parents Frederick Burton Luce and Ella Beatrice Young Luce; his sisters Dorothy Beatrice Luce Sage (Albert Sage), Kathleen May Luce Ewart (Jack Ewart), Alice Irene Luce Laroche (Douglas Laroche), and Geraldine  Irma Luce Brice (Clinton Brice); his brothers Ronald Frederick Luce (Lena Luce), Donald Alfred Luce (Irene Luce), and Douglas Eward Luce (Marguerite Luce); and his great grandson Ethan Michael Luce.
