William Laws

March 30, 1941 — February 26, 2019

William Thomas Laws, 77, of Newton, died Tuesday, February 26th, 2019 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born March 30th, 1941 he was a loving father, grand father and great-grandfather.

Tommy loved his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his children Scott Laws and his wife Sharon of Brownwood, TX, Teresa Laws of Raleigh, Marty Laws of Hickory, Lisa and Richard Gay of Maiden, Shannon Laws of Hickory, and Brandon Laws and girlfriend Lisa Brackett of Valdese; grandchildren Chelsea, Brittany, Sydney, Nathan, Nicholas, and Peyton; and great-grandchildren Bristol, Brantley, Shelby, and Braxton.

Tommy is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Thorneburg Laws. They were soul mates and had been married for 50 years. They had a poodle named Lizzy who became Tommy's right hand after Patricia passed. Tommy loved to work in the yard as well as his garden. He worked two jobs most of his life including Ellis Hosiery where he worked for 50 years. Tommy was a big fan of the UNC Tarheels and NASCAR racing. He was a smart, funny, hardworking man who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger. He will truly be missed.

The funeral will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 1st, 2019 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm on Friday March 1, 2019 at the church.
