William Osborne Rone Jr., 81, of Catawba passed away Thursday, May 17th, 2018 at W. G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center. Born November 10th, 1936 he was the son of the late William Rone and Roche Howard Rone.
Bill Rone was a stalwart man, a self-styled individual, and an honorable man. He passed his love of God and spice for life to his children and grandchildren. He graduated from Bandy’s High School in 1955 then entered the U. S. Air Force and was a field radio operator during the Korean conflict. After attending Lenoir Rhyne College he spent thirty five years with Duke Power as an electric engineer. He coached his childrens sports teams for many years and involved them in his favorite past times such as playing music, gardening, fishing, reading, and telling jokes. He was a man of many skills and started Bill Rone Demolition where he systematically demolished buildings throughout North and South Carolina. In his later years he loved to play music and barter at the flea markets, collect coins and involve himself in local politics.
A daughter Susan Rone of Valdese; two grandchildren Kori Federici, Carson Ashley and his fiancé Regis Barnhardt survive him.
In addition to his parents; his son Steven Rone; three sisters Marie Wainwright, Betty Small, Francis Rone; and a grandson Steven Rone Federici Jr. preceded him in death.
A graveside service will be 11:00am Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018 at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
