Yeon A. White, 78, of Hickory, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022. She was born in Taegu, South Korea, the second youngest of six siblings: two brothers and four sisters. She grew up in Seoul, where she met and married U.S. Army Service Member James Dale White. Born Yeon (sometimes spelled Youn) Ja Ku, she later adopted the biblical name, Aroel, for her middle name. Her parents were Pal Young Ku and Su Sang Kim of South Korea.
Mrs. White is survived by two sons, David and Andy of Hickory; two brothers and two sisters and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews in South Korea. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters; and her beloved husband, James Dale White.
Mrs. White lived the blessing of a humble and contented life. Her great joys were flowers, food, friends and fellowship. She was a member of Tri-City Korean Fellowship Church in Hickory, and also regularly attended St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Newton. She loved animals, and especially adored her precious Lhasa Apso, Buddy. In the later years of her life, Mrs. White fought a very brave fight against debilitating spinal pain and numerous troubles of the body. There were many hard days and hard nights, and there were terrible sufferings. But she endured. She ran her race. She finished her race. She said she was just passing through this world. Her hope and her treasure were in eternal life. She gave generously to her churches and to many charitable organizations. Mrs. White lived all the ups and downs, the joys and sorrows, the pleasures and pains of an authentic spiritual journey. She was a blessing. May she now have eternal joy. Well done, good and faithful servant.
“Her wings are tattered and torn now. She has come to the end of her life. But it was a good life.” From: A Bee’s Diary.
